With the increasing number of labels and terms used when it comes to trying to hang a label on the people who challenge typical gender roles we asked our intrepid reporter Andy Massell to look into what people think the term 'Agender' is all about.
“I took to the streets of New York, in particular a club where I was most likely to get some cool views on this topic, and this is what I learnt" : -
Q: What would you describe as being ‘agender’? ”
Dillion : To me agender is just another way of saying non binary. It is a neutral stance. I think they also call it Neutrois.
KT : The people I know who call themselves Agender are not too sure about where they sit. They aren’t comfortable with being queer, gay, trans so they just go with agender. I think if you just don’t give a shit whether you are perceived as a guy or a girl - agender fits the bill.
Jodi: I think agender is a term that people who are ok with how they are born but don’t like the labels the world puts on them use this word. They are not into to changing their anatomy or anything - rather, they are challenging the gender roles and rules that our society have created.
Angie : I call myself agender because I just don’t want a label. It is the closest term to nothing. I am just a person and that’s it. Agender is when you just don’t identify with any of it at all. Its the big care factor ‘0’. I don’t want to ‘be seen’ or ‘feel’ like a male or a female. They prefer just a big nothing….. maybe its the third gender?
