Non-Binary Celebrity - Emma Watson

Emma Watson has been associated with the non-binary movement for years, taking to the stage back in 2017 when she was the first recipient of the gender-neutral acting prize at revamped MTV movie awards, praising the occasion:-

“The first acting award in history that doesn’t separate nominees based on their sex says something about how we perceive the human experience.”


Emma has gone on to be instrumental in promoting many gender liberating initiatives. She has utilised her influence, and also donated money, for causes including donating £1 million to help those affected by sexual harassment, launching a sexual harassment legal advice line in England and Wales. In 2014 Emma was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, launching ‘HeForShe’ - an initiative to include men in the conversation about gender equality.


In an interview with Paris Lees for British Vogue, Emma speaks about becoming a voice for change:-


“Watson is also a staunch supporter of the trans community, which she is keen to discuss today. As the British press continues to demonise trans people and claim there is a conflict between trans rights and traditional feminism, I ask her what she’d say to, for instance, people who think allowing trans women to use public toilets puts “real” women in danger.
“That makes me really mad,” she says. “Having spoken with, and having friends who are trans, there’s so many more important issues that are not being discussed.
