Ruby Rose has been an advocate for Non-Binary most of her life and has gained plenty of media attention with her roles in the US series ‘Orange is the new Black’ and the TV series of Batwoman.
Ruby grew up in Australia and says that from an early age she was convinced she was a boy. "I remember being at a yum cha restaurant with my dad and the owner coming up and saying, “Excuse me, we're trying to work out if you're a handsome boy or a beautiful girl.' It was a compliment, and I was shocked, and when I thought about it, I actually wanted to be a handsome boy."
Ruby now describes herself as genderfluid, saying, "I am very gender fluid and feel more like I wake up everyday sort of gender neutral."
Ruby released ‘Break Free’, a short movie in which she visually transforms from a very feminine woman to a heavily tattooed man. Ruby has stated that if she had to choose a sex, she would choose to be male, but she does not feel like she should have been born with different body parts and is not planning any gender reassignment surgery. In fact, she has been reported as stating she would like to have children one day.
Ruby prefers to use feminine pronouns, but she also uses they/them pronouns and is a vegan for climate change reasons.
The link below is an inspirational clip where Ruby discusses gender, coming out, being yourself and making the most of your life. Enjoy!
